WANGANUI NOTES

VICTORIA LEAGUE BRIDGE

(From "The Post's" Representative.) WANGANUI, November 12. Every year the Wanganui branch of the Victoria League holds a bridge party to raise funds to enable disabled soldiers at the Roehampton Hospital, in London to enjoy extra outings and gifts at Christmas time. The money is sent to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wray in London, and every year Mrs. Wray writes expressing the thanks of the men for the thoughtful action of the Wanganui League. This year's party was held in the league's room and in the Wanganui Women's Clubrooms, which-were taxed to capacity. Mr. A, H. Boyes, president, welcomed the guests to the pretty rooms, which were decorated with azalea and Iceland poppies, In addition to those :at the rooms a number of tables were j played'm private homes. The sum of, £23 was raised, and Mrs. H, D. Bates! is again, paying the exchange, ! Dinner and Dance. At the "Gathering of the Clans"

Scott who, with her husband, has now left Marton for a hpliday. in Australia. The party'was held/at Mrs. Sutclifte's home, and singing and. competitions passed a pleasant afternoon. Fre-wedding: Party. j A very delightful "gift evening"] was held by the mothers of pupils' and the elder pupils of Miss Gwen j O'Mahoney in the supper room of the Waverley Town Hall, The evening was spent in dancing, and after supper Miss O'Mahoney and Mr. South-; combe opened numerous mysterious packages. Mr. Scott, on behalf of the men present, presented ah envelope and thanked the guest of honour for her patience and advice, and for all she had done for dancing in Waverley. , Personals. Bourne are visiting Christchurch. Mrs. G. Cramond has returned from Auckland.
