STATE HOUSING JOB
MORE MONEY WANTED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day
A stop-work meeting lasting half an hour was held this morning by the carpenters' and builders' general labourers engaged in the erection of State houses at Orakei. Union officials, representatives of the men, and Mr. W. J. Lyon, M.P., addressed the meetI ing while officials of the contracting firm, the Fletcher Construction Company, heard the men's demands. Those included a claim for two hours' pay in the event of men reporting for work and being unable to continue through wet weather. This was later coupled with a request for 2d an hour all-round increase in pay. It was pointed out that owing to pressure of work claims before the ■ Arbitration Court would probably not be completed until early next year. The meeting decided to negotiate with Mr. J. A. Lee, Undersecretary in Charge of Housing, and decided to take up with the company the suggested ten-minute morning "tea-o." ■>
