LICENSEE'S BREACH

NAME NOT IN .WAGES BOOK

Pleas of guilty were entered on behalf of D. G. Fraser, licensee of the Central Hotel, Petonc, in the Petone Court yesterday, on charges of breaches of the New Zealand hotel employees' agreement. He was charged with failins to exhibit a tirric-lable setting forth the working hours of each employee, and with failing to record in the time and wages book the name of Mary Brown, the kind of work on which she was employed, the daily hours of her employment, and the wages paid each week. Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., was on the Bench.

Mr. F. W. Ashby, inspector of awards, said that at the time of the inspector's visit there was no sign of a timetable. This was not a serious breach, but what was more serious was the fact that in the time and wages book there was no record of Mary Brown. She had been employed for at least six months, and as far as could be ascertained received from 31s to 35s a week. Another employee mentioned the matter, and there had been no complaint made by the person concerned.

Mr. W. J. Bcvcridgc, who appeared for Fraser. said that Mary Brown had been employed as a confidcnUnl housemaid, and attended to the defendant's room, where a good deal of money was kept. She was an old friend of the family, and at her own request was not put on the wages book.

Penalties amounting to £2 10s were i imposed for the breaches.
