BOOM IN MILK.
Sales of liquid milk in the United Kingdom in April showed the highest increase recorded in any month since the Milk Marketing Board came into being. The total sold was over 2.300,000 gallons more than in April, lboti, and in the seven months prior to April there had t>een an increased turnover of nearly 10,000,000 gallons. In this remarkable expansion, the milk-bar movement, which started in the United Kingdom only as recently as August. 1935, has been an important contributing factor. Figures compiled recently by the board show that there are now 710 bars, an increase of 123 since the beginning of the year. Some are open day and night, and many have had to engage additional staff! Already, it is estimated, considerably over 4000 people are directly employed by the bars. It is expected that at least 1000 bars will be in existence by the end nf the present English summer. More than one-fifth of thosg now open are in London, including the largest in the world, which Grv»» ploys a serving staff of forty.
