AUTUMN'S GOLDEN FINGER
("Lassie"' wrote this for the Ring.)
Autumn's golden finger has touched the poplar trees, Turning them, from spires of green to candle-flames for God. While up the sunny orchard slopes the laden apple trees Go marching, like a'regiment, scarlet and russet-shod.
Around the hills' broad shoulders are scarves of soft white mist; ■ Their evening gowns of wood-smoke blue arc guarded by a star, 0 kindly hills, <O golden trees, by Autumn gently kissed, Pray breathe your evening peace on me, who greet you from afar.
