Large shooting parties in the-Waver-ley, Wanganui, and Rangitikei districts left yesterday for their usual shooting grounds, located mostly .in the. long chain of lakes:.between the sea and the farm lands from Taranakito Levin.
■'. From the whole district favourable reports have been received regarding the number of ducks. ,
Parties on fishing launches have reported that fine weather on May 1 brings astonishing numbers of wild1 duck far out to sea, seeking for sanctuary, and the three sanctuaries near Wanganui (Virginia, Westmere, and Kaitoke Lakes) are always the rendezvous for hundreds of wild duck. Mallard ducks have greatly increased. Recently Mr. Whitney, of Auckland, presented a number of mallards to Mr. Keith Stevens, of Fern Flats, Marton, and a number of pheasants have been liberated in the district. -~'•.
