FOR THE BLIND
The local branch of the Red Cross Society held a delightful picnic outing for their blind friends recently, and were fortunate in choosing one of the few fine days. The picnickers went to Eastbourne, and, by the kindness of the local Borough Council, were carried free of expense by boat and bus. Both lunch and afternoon tea were enjoyed in the pavilion, and the rest of the time was spent most pleasantly on the beach. An impromptu concert added to the enjoyment, Mrs. Hardy and Mr. Smith giving songs, Miss; Doreen Clarke and Mr. D. Green playing piano solos, and Miss Hughes reciting. Mrs. Downes, who made the arrangements, was assisted by Mesdames Angus and Schneiderman and Miss Eager, of the Red Cross executive. Mrs. Knox Gilmer, who has been a kindly helper in the efforts for the blind, was among those present. The outing was a thoroughly pleasant one.
