VISIT TO ROOSEVELT STRONGHOLD
STRAW VOTE FAVOURS THE
REPUBLICAN
NEW YORK, October 30.
. The Republican candidate for the Presidency, Mr. A. M. Landon, invaded one of President Roosevelt's' strongholds in New York and received a 10----minute ovation. He.charged-the President with dislocating the American agricultural system, rewarding scarcity, and penalising plenty, and declared his own intention to repair the damage of the destructive experiments of Mr. Roosevelt.
Meanwhile President Roosevelt met with an extraordinarily enthusiastic reception at Philadelphia. He toured several Pennsylvanian cities.
The final return in the "Literary Digest" straw-poll is:— A. M. Landon.—Popular vote, 1,293,669; electoral vote, 370, carrying 32 States.
F. D. Roosevelt.—Popular vote, 972,897; electoral vote, 161.
