AERO ENGINE INCIDENT
CLOSED
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, October 29,
Sir Philip Sassoon, Under-Secretary of State for Air, made a statement in the House of Commons regarding Lord Nuffield's criticisms of the making of aero'• engines for the defence programme and drew .' attention to the White Paper on the subject, stating that it showed that the Government had acted upon the considered advice of experienced firms in undertaking the: construction of the engines required. '
Lord Nuffield, he said, accepted the White Paper as a fair statement of the Government's viewpoint of' what passed between the Air Ministry and himself, and Sir Philip did not propose to make a further statement. Although Lord Nuffield was unable to co-operate in the air plan, he was ready to place his services at the disposal of the Government for other important works.
