OPEN-AIR BOUT
WELLINGTON'S CHANCES
Although the Blomfield-George bout must be classed as one of the biff engagements, Wellington so far lid* been given no indication that it is to be the venue of an openair wrestling: show. The absence of such an announcement, however, must not be taken as an indication that either the local association or the Dominion Union has rejected the idea, of staging such a'contest. In -a conversation this week with Mr. A, G. Washer, secretary of the Dominion Union and honorary treasurer of the Wellington Association, the writer was assured that Wellington almost certainly would have an-opon-air bout before the season closed.
If. there is to be a return bout between Earl McCready and Ed Don George it would appeal as the most logical choice of contest. It depends, j 0:6 course, upon the outcome of the Auckland bout in a fortnight's time as to whether a return engagement will be justified. If it is, then Saturday, November 21, is the probable date of the bout. The ground on which the contest (if any) is to take place has yel to be decided, but the speedway stadium at Kilbirnie appeals as the most suitable. Then there is the question of whettv it should be held in the afternoon or evening. Conditions would probably be warmer in the afternoon, but it is a matter of opinion as to whether visibility would be as good as could be obtained by the use of powerful lights at night. . However, the union's officials will have had a chance to form an opinion before then as a night event is to take place at Monica Park, Christchurch, next Saturday, and one in the afternoon of the same day at ths Palmerston North Showgrounds.
