A REPAIRER OF EGGS
Perhaps you : have never heard of an egg repairer. There is only one craftsman in England who can skilfully "put an egg together : again." He is Mr. William Candy,. of Sherbourne Place, Cheltenham. Many birds' egg collectors have oeen grateful to him for restoring valuable specimens which had been smashed. One such egg taken to him was that of a great auk. When its owner walked into his shop the egg was in twenty pieces, but by skilfulmanipulation the Cheltenham specialist had performed the seemingly impossible task of restoration. When he was a boy Mr. Candy showed unusual ability in the repair of china, and though discouraged by his father, who held out little hope for his son in such a fine art, the boy persevered and became an expert in china, repairing, which, he combined with egg repairs. He does his delicate work with invisible rivets and special cements. Mr. Candy, who has spent a lifetime in the study of art, intends to keep his formula a secret. Though'in his 70th year, he can still be seen at his workbench a!J day.
