A NEW COMMANDER

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 30.

Commander Lionel C. P. Tudway, DSO D.S.C., has been appointed to command the sloop Leith on the New Zealand station in succession to Captain Oliver Bevir, who will leave Auckland for England in December when the ship is paid off. Commander Tudway is at present serving as commander of the boys' training establishment in the St. Vincent at Foxton, Hampshire. Born in 1893, Commander Tudway has had a distinguished naval career. He served throughout the Great war, being mentioned in dispatches before being awarded the D.S.G., and later he won the D.S.O. He also won promotion as a result of his services after the war. He served in various ships, and before being appointed to the St. Vincent training establishment in 1933 he was in command of the cruiser Danae, of the Eighth Cruiser Squadron, on the American and West Indies station. His seniority as commander dates from December 31, 1928. Commander Tudway is not married.
