NURSES' TOUR

TRIO OF HIKERS

CHEAP TRAVELLING

(Special to tne "Evenlna Post.")

PALMERSTON N.,_This, Day.

Neatly dressed in sporting attire;and: with haversacks on their backs containing raincoats' and" toilet outfits, three Wellington nurses hiked through Sandon yesterday on their way back to. the Capital City., When the tour is completed they will have covered 1054 miles, and the' cost to each will have amounted to £2 10s only.

The trip was commenced from Wellington on October 19, and the first night was spent at Takapau. On Tuesday they set off for Taupo, but had to sleep in an old whare about 50 miles short of their destination. Rotorua was the next stopping place, and then they retraced their, steps to Wairakei to return to Rotorua the same night. Accommodation being short, all three had to sleep in the same bed. October 23 saw them on their way to Tauranga and by the aid of numerous lifts they reached Paeroa at midnight. Next day further lifts enabled them to reach Auckland, but not before getting thoroughly drenched. Time was short and they had to move on next day to Hamilton and the Waitomo Caves, spending a night on wool sacks in an old "shearer's hut. Then came New Plymouth, ■ Wanganui, Marton, and finally Palmerston North last night. They expect to be back in Wellington today. The three nurses are very enthusiastic about their trip. When seen by a reporter at Sandon they had just alighted from a transport lorry and remarked that they had secured lifts in no fewer than 50 motor-cars and all kinds of other vehicles.
