WRESTLING TITLE DISPUTE
OFFER TO SPORTING CLUB
The return from Australia of George Walker, one of the claimants of the British Empire professional heavyweight wrestling title, has renewed speculation as to the prospects of his meeting Earl , McCreacy, another claimant of the title, in a bout to decide the issue between them. On his arrival Waßter stated that he had returned in answer to a challenge from McCready, and Trie only difficulty remaining was to come to some agreement regarding the staging of the bout, the two men being attached to different promoting organisations, McCready to the Dominion Wrestling Union (N.Z.), and Walker to the National Sporting Club. . The matter was considered this week at a meeting of the committee of the Wellington Wrestling Association, which is affiliated to the Dominion Union, and as a result the following letter was*sent to the secretary of the National Sporting Club:— Dear Sir, — Re McCready-Walker match: At a meeting of my committee held on October 27 it was decided to make you the following offer to enable a decision to be come to on the' above match:— (a) A sub-committee consisting of the secretary and treasurer of the National Sporting Club and the secretary and treasurer of my association to be set up to stage the contest. , (b) The contest to be held on neutral ground, namely, to be an "open-air" contest. , (c) The wrestlers to take the usual 80 per cent, of the net profit of the match, and the balance, namely 20 per cent., to be donated to Christmas cheer 'funds; . (d). The 20 per cent, division mentioned in clause (c) to be handed to the Hons. P. Fraser, W. E. Parry, and R. Semple for distribution to such •funds as they consider worthy. . (Signed) J. C.
