MANY DIFFICULTIES

FUTURE OF TELEVISION

"WELL DOWN ON HORIZON"

(liy Telegraph—Press Assueiahoii.l

AUCKLAND, This Day

The'opinion that practical television was "well down on the horizon was expressed by Captain P. J. Manley, a director of Amplion Australian, Ltd., who is returning to Sydney on the Monterey after a trip to America.

He said that although several broadcasting studios had been modified for stage-acting for television use at some future date many technical difficulties remained to be overcome, and it would be a long time before television broadcasting was an accomplished fact on a large scale. Two hundred television receiving sets were being built when he left the States for distribution to testing stations, otherwise everyone in America was "radio mad." Technically New Zealand and Australia were well abreast of progress. Quite a number of New Zealand-made radio receiving sets were being imported into Australia, and proved very popular.
