SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.
A fairly intense westerly depression lias moved on to the South Island, while pressure lias remained high in the north. North-east to north-westerly winds have prevailed aud have become strong and squally iv ninny places, especially about and south of Cook Strait. During yesterday winds were light to moderate, and the weather fair to fine generally, but since last night it has become cloud.v and unsettled iv the western and far southern distrlcls of the South Island, with rain. The falls have been mainly moderate, but Okurit, in South Westland, reports having had 280 points.
