PETONE TECHNICAL COLLEGE

A SUCCESSFUL DAY

Favoured by beautiful weather, the annual athletic sports of the Petoiie Memorial Technical ' College, which were held on the Petone Recreation Ground yesterday, were a great success. Competition was keen, and there were many exciting finishes. Among those present were the chairman of the board of managers (Mr. W B. Nicholson) and Mrs. Nicholson, the principal of the Hutt Valley High School (Mr. J. N. Millard) and Mrs. Millprd, Mr. J. A. Ash (member of the board of managers) and Mrs. Ash, Mrs. Aitchison (also a member of the board), Mrs. W. Parkinson, the principal (Mr. -A. McFadyen) and Mrs. McFadyen. At the conclusion of the sports Mr. McFadyen said he was very pleased the day had been so successful. He expressed pleasure at the number of parents and friends present. There had not been so many visitors at the sports before. The sports had been going now since 1930. This year the school had some very fine runners, as in .the past. He thanked the members of the Petone Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, Messrs. Len Price, D. Fraser, J. Goodall, B. Lippitt, L. R. Baigent, and C. Neal, for their help, and also Mr. T. W. Leslie, from Wellington, who was celebrating his birthday. He made an appeal for more cups to be presented. Cheers were given for Mr. Leslie for his birthday. Mr. Nicholson, who presented three cups, endorsed Mr. McFadyen's remarks about cups, and said that an appeal in this connection at the swimming sports had been successful.
