and goes at the trotting gait. He has not yet raced. He was bred by the late Mr. J. R. Corrigan, and is owned by Mr. D. Hyslop, of Hastings. If he repeats the form he disclosed at the Wellington February Meeting. Ping will do very well in the Weston Trot Handicap at Oamaru tomorrow. Ideal was the only one who could beat him in the Woburn Trial Handicap, and that narrowly. Ideal's subsequent form makes Ping out to be quite useful. The promising pacer Kings Guide, by Blue Mountain King—Guiding Star, has been purchased by a patron of F. J. Smith's stable and is now at Takanini. King's Guide has won three races this season for Mr. W. Johnstone, who bred him. The brother to First Flight is a rare stayer, and may be entered for the Manawatu Trotting Cup next month. Maxegin, the sire of Supertax, and one of the horses mentioned as the begetter of Valdor, was imported to New Zealand by J. Bryce, and raced in the interests of Messrs. Kelly and Morrison, of Wellington. Maxegin trotted his way into the test class, and in the 1928-29 season he won three races in metropolitan company, including the Middleton Handicap, in which he defeated two very fine square-gaiters in Elzear and Moneyspider. Maxegin is now at the stud in Southland.

When Graham Direct began smartly and joined the leader with six furlongs to go in the Washdyke Handicap, his army of supporters anticipated a certain dividend, but to their surprise he was boaten out of a place over the last furlong, after taking the lead at the entrance to the straight (says the "Star-Sun"). F. Holmes drove him hard over the last furlong, but the gelding could not.respond, and his form showed conclusively that he is not as fit as when he won the Auckland Trotting Cup at Christmas time. Parochial went sound races at the Wellington Meeting, and an.early win is in store for the daughter of Great Parrish. On the first day she paced a sound race into second place behind Blair Athol in the Waiwetu Handicap, after being one of the leading division all the way, and it was no disgrace to be beaten by such a three-year-old. Parochial is on a handy mark at present, and it should not be long before she again returns to the winning list, as she possesses plenty of speed, and is most reliable. Gentle Bobbie, winner of the pacers division of the Victorian Trotting Derby, is a son of Robert Derby and Betty Don, and is owned by J. McKay, brother to W. McKay, who visited Auckland last season with Auburn Lad. W. McKay drove Gentle Bobbie to victory earlier in the day in the first division of the Association Handicap, running the mile and a quarter at a 2min lTJsec gait, and the colt had no trouble in winning the Derby in 2min 20S5CC. 'At the same meeting, Diana's Choice, the only one of Surprise Journey's progeny racing in Australia, scored n very easy win in the Combined Handicap, at.a 2min 18:! sec rate. Surprise Journey was a good winner when trained in Christchurch by the late W. J. Tomkinson. and this stylish trotting stallion is siring promising stock in the Auckland district, \
