GALA PLANNED
EASTBOURNE PROJECT
The suggestion by the Town Clerk and General Manager (Mr. C. L. Bishop) that a gala week should be held at Eastbourne in aid of beach'improvements gave rise to a brief discussion at the meeting of the Eastbourne Borough. Council last even--IDf'he Mayor CMr. E. W. Wise) said that if it was advisable to go ahead I with the Town Clerk's suggestion he 'could be authorised to'bring down a report, and a special committee could also be set up. , : "Does' that mean beach protection? asked Captain J. F. Rockstrow. "You could use it for that as well as beach improvement," replied the Mayor, who added that the "council.could do little beautifying or improvement work but of. revenue. The gala would; be run "on- the right lines. After'the Town "Clerk had made the preliminary arrangements the council"' could- decide the various uses in beautifying and improvement work that- the money could be put to. The co-operation of citizens was expected, and this was one of the things in which the Ratepayers': Association could help.
Councillor D. Bowie said that seats were wanted along the foreshore.
"A- children's play area is also wanted," said Councillor, Magill. : It was decided that the Towii Clerk should make preliminary inquiries, and 'a committeewill be set up later.
