CHAMPIONSHIP BILLIARDS

Three games were played at the Bit I liards limited showrooms' last night in the provincial championship, the winners being H. M. Blundell (Com-, mercial Travellers' Club), J. L. Petley (Commercial Travellers' Club), and A.I A. Duncan (R.S:A.): In the first game Blundell was fortunate in beating Sim. The latter is a veteran and a skilled tactician, and perhaps has as great a knowledge of the fine points of the, game as any jhan in\the tournament. Blundell, making his first appearance, was a very careful, deliberate player, and able to secure fine shots that an older man could not do. He reached his: points (300); when; his opponent was 259. Petley had little difficulty in beating Pedrotti by 300 to 188. Pedrotti is a young V.M.C.A. player with little experience in tournament play, and appeared to be affected by his surroundings. He has a good style,- however, and is likely to prove a serious competitor in the future. The third game, between Duncan, an ex-champion, and McMillan . (Fire Brigade), proved ' very exciting, the former winning by the small margin of nine points. At the commencement McMillan drew well-away from his opponent and played by far the more attractive billiards. Duncan then made a nice break of 70, and in failing left, fortuitously, safety. McMillan, rather too sporting, opened them up, and Duncan scored a further 39, again breaking down and leaving them dead safe; From this stage on the scores were practically ' even. McMillan was "within an ace of winning the game, an honour which his play merited. Duncan is a very hard man to beat and is a clever tactician.

Tonight at .7 o'clock Tucker will play Butters, 'at 8 - o'clock Fitzgerald - will play Peek, and at 9 o'clock Devine will play Hamilton. ; ' ._ ;
