"COURT OF REVELRY"

SUMMONS TO ATTEND

ANNUAL LAW BALL

Intimidated by the summons to attend the "Supreme Court of Revelry," and weakly fearing to profiler excuses, several hundred people in "their own proper persons together with," in some cases, "their lawful partners," were present, defiantly clad in their gayest apparel, at St. Francis-Hall, Hill: Street, last night. They were fined 4s 6d each, and sentenced to dance in court until "2.30 o'clock in .the forenoon of the day following," and this they did with true British fortitude, and even managed to laugh and appear to enjoy every minute of it.

This "court of revelry" (or. annual law ball) was held by the Wellington Law Students' Society and the Victoria University College Law Faculty Club "in pursuance," so the summons stated, ■'of the powers vested in them by the Urban Solicitors' Final Amusement Act, 1935, upon the grounds.that the Victoria University College Student Union Building Fund will benefit pro tanto according to the fees emoluments and profits of and incidental to. the said proceedings."

The hall had no extra trimmings on this occasion—the rich red velvet draperies supplied all that was heeded, but the supper-room looked very gay and frivolous. Orange baskets, filled with daffodils and birch, made quaint and effective table decorations^ while overhead were crepe paper garlands.

There was an excellent orchestra, and during the supper interval a piano accordion player kept the ball "rolling." A most amusing character burlesque

tap dance was performed by pupils of Miss Dorothy Daniels, dressed as '"Arry and 'Arriet," and Mr. and Mrs. Southern Colledge gave a delightful exhibition of ballroom dancing.

The ball committee consisted"~o£ Messrs. D. W. Arcus, J. C. White, A. G. Wicks, and M. R. Jackson (secretary).

The Hon. W. Perry and Mrs. Perry acted as host .and hostess. Mrs; Perry wore a striking gown of green, red, and white figured sand crepe, the hem of the long sweeping skirt beingfinished with a narrow pleating of-green. With this she wore a short' cape of black ring velvet.
