These lines are contained in the Olympic oath to be taken by competitors when the next Olympic Games are opendd officially at Berlin on the afternoon of August 1, 1936. • Various, publications coming to hand from Germany cannot but impress one of- the work of the German organising committee in preparing for the great festival next year., THE PROGRAMME. Weight-lifting.—August 2 to August 5, Deutchland Hall. Wrestling.—August 2 to August 9, Deutchland Hall. ; Boxing.—August 10 to' August 15, Deutchland Hall. .' .Fencing.—August 2 to August 15, Gymnasium, Reich Sport Field. Shooting.—August 7 to August 9, ranges at Wannsee, Berlin. Modem Pentathlon.—August 3 to August 7. ..'■,'' Gymnastics.—August 10 to August 12, Dietrich Echart Open-air Theatre at the Reich Sport Field. Equestrian Sports.—August 12 to August 16, Olympic Stadium and Equestrian Stadium. Cycling.—August 6 to August 10, Cycling Stadium, with exception of 100 kilometres' road race. Swimming.—August 8 to August 15, Olympic Swimming Stadium. Rowing.—August 8 to August 14, Gruenau Regatta course. Canoeing.—August 12 to August 15, Gruenau Regatta course. Yachting.—August 4 to August 14, Kiel Bay. Football (Association). —August 2 to August 15, on the grounds of Berlin clubs and at the Olympic Stadium. Hockey.—August 4 to August 14, Hockey Stadium (Reich Sport Field). Handball.—August 6 to August 14, Reich Sport Field and Olympic Stadium. Basketball.— August 8 to August 14, Reich Sport Field. Polo. —August 2 to August 11, Polo Field, Reich Sport Field. On the morning of August. 4 a demonstration of gliding is to be given at a Berlin aerodrome. Gliding competitions will be held on the Wasserhuppe (Rhoen) during the second week of the Olympic Games. There will also be demonstrations of lacrosse in the Olympic Stadium on August 3, 5, and 7, and a demonstration of baseball in the Olympic Stadium on August

Around: the arena the seats for close on 100,000 spectators will rise up in 71 tows. There will be lower and upper rings. Sixteen entrances and exits will provide for the filling and emptying of the seats in a few minutes. There is to be no roof to the stands. Only the1 Press stand on the southern side of the upper ring is to be' provided with a covering, and there the working rooms for the Press are to ; be situated. '.The'southern sHe will contain the stands for the guests of honour. •■ • ■ .North of the Olympic Stadium will be the Swimming Stadium., '• On ■ its south side will be a diving pool 20 by 20 metres, leading. into 1116 swimming pool, measuring 20 by 50' metres. ' The water will be kept in motion at aa equal temperature. On each side of the swimming pool as well' as at the northern end there will be stands for 12,000 people. Beneath the stands will be the dressing and other rooms. This stadium will be linked with the Olympic Stadium by a special tunnel. FESTIVAL PLAT. The wish of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Games, and life honorary president, that the opening day should ring out with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony has resulted in the decision to stage a •festival play in the Olympic Stadium in the evening of August 1. This will be an artistic conclusion to the opening ceremony taking place in the afternoon. The festival play will bear the title of "Olympic Youth," and its purpose will be to show in artistic form the inner meaning of youthful games at various ages and' the combat of youth with inimical powers. Over 10,000 boys and girls of all ages, and young women and- men are to take part in the play. With' them will be associated singing and speaking choruses, also youthful bands > and orchestras, and the Guild of German Dancers is to supply its best performers.
