AUCTION OF RABBITSKINS

A total clearance at prices which must have been very satisfactory to the trappers was effected at the third sale of the rabbitskin season held in Wellington yesterday. The combined brokers, New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Dalgety and Co., and Wright, Stephenson and Co., report that substantial catalogues, comprising mainly incoming and winter skins, were submitted, and there was a lull attendance of buyers who competed very keenly for the various^ grades. Winters in particular were in excellent demand, and the top price realised, 953 d for prime winter bucks, is exceptionally high for North Island skins.

. The quality of the offering, taken all over, was considerably better than that of previous sales held here this season, and consequently prices v/ere much higher. First bucks made 93d against 82-ld last sale, incoming 62d against

60d, autumn 46d against 44d, and "all" other grades showed an improvement of from 3d to Gd per lb, ■ • ,
