RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIPS
I PONEKE AND OLD BOYS LEADING
KEEN PLAY IN LOCAL SENIOR GRADE
The series of senior Rugby championship matches played in Wellington on Saturday afternoon provided any amount of keen play, ihpugh the supply of spectacular performance was not so liberal as usual. Two of the matches in the first division of the senior A grade were drawn, and, Marist Brothers Old Boysand Johnsonville being unable to check the progress of two of the leading teams, Wellington College Old Boys and Poneke, were left to.pilot the field into the next engagements. .A very disappointing display was given at Athletic Park by Wellington College Old Boys and Marist, the play being for the most part scrappy. Old Boys.won comfortably. Eastbourne scored a decisive win over Oriental, and Poneke won well from the other promoted team, Johnsonville. Athletic and Petone staged a keen encounter at Pelone, and the teams emerged from it with an even distribution of points. As in their first meeting, Wellington and Hutt played a drawn game, each side this time scoring three points.
