A grant of £10 10s was made by the Waiteinata County Council to the Society for the Piotection of Women and Children, in appreciation .'of "the services that the society is rendering, states the "New Zealand. Woolworths (N.Z.) Ltd., tendered to their manager and coach, Mi. H. J. DavieSj on the occasion of liis transfer to Auckland. At the conclusion of a -delightful afternoon tea, Miss V. Taylor paid tribute to the services icndercd by Mr. Davies, and while congiatulating him on being transferred, voiced the regret of tho team at the loss they would sustain. The members of the Social Servico Guild were the guests of Lady Hunter at an afternoon party to -welcome Mrs.T. B. Strong, after a holiday with her son, Mr. J. Strong, to Melbourne and Sydney. Mrs. Strong gave a very humorous description of a motor tour through the more important beauty places, and especially described the country on tho by-ways where the unwary motorist could easily bo held np through the mud of the backblock roads! She was very interested in the excellent women speakers whom she met in societies where she was entertained in Melbourne. ' An executive meeting of the Residential Nursery, Owen Street, was presided over by the Hon. Dr.' Collins. The committee and the.matron regretted having'to Tefuse so many babies, but it was stated that tho accommodation was taxed to _ tho utmost and it was unavoidable.
