UNIVERSITY AND HUIA

There was little to choose between Huia and University, and the final score, 3-all, was a fair indication of the play. Huia were given more opportunities in the circle than their opponents, but encountered a sound defence, the University . halves, in particular, playing "exceptionally well. There was -ao let-up in either spell, and after the interval, when the ground was churned up and the ball required hard bitting, both sides gave of their best and play was fast and open. Williams, University right wing, opened the scoring- from the edge of the Huia circle, but Wheatley, the Huia inside right; equalised. A University forward rush followed, and Struthers sent the ball past Macdonnell, in goal, for. a decisive goal. There was no change in the score at half-time. Cooper, the Huia captain, struck form in the second spell • and gave his side the lead with two goals in quick sucbession. • Davis,' the University custodian, had^ a good deal of work to do, and he did* if well, saving several times when shots appeared almost unstoppable. There were some hard tussles in the final stages. University worked their way into the Huia territory and a penalty corner was conceded by Huia. Robinson, the University centre-half, drove hard for the net,., but Macdonnell wad there and the ball rebounded into the circle, where it was snapped up.by.Denby and cent paat the goalkeeper. There was do further score. .'.■'■ . . ... ■■■•..
