Getting a liner into dry clock at a British port is expensive. The fees for tugs may amount to £200, and the hire of the dock costs about- £2000. An army of men first get to work clearing the ship's bottom of barnacles. Then come painters, who treat the hull with compounds. This item alone may cost another £1200. ■ • .
