ST. PATRICK'S CONCERT
SILVERSTREAM SUCCESS
Shooting trophies won by St. Patrick's College, Silverstream, were presented at the term concert on Thursday night by the area officer, Major E.-T. Rollings. The trophies included. the Kebbell Shield for the highest score in the central command in the Imperial Challenge Shield competition, and the Barton Bowl for the highest score in the Earl Roberts Memorial Competition. . Company Sergeant-Major T. Bunbury received the Kebbell Shield on behalf of the school, and Cadet C. Mariu, captain of the long range shooting team, received the Barton Bowl. A silver medallion for firing a possible of 100 in the Imperial Challenge Competition Was presented to R. G. Eivers, who was the only competitor in New Zealand to obtain a possible.
The concert programme was a varied one and included extracts from "H.M.S. Pinafore.' The programme was as follows: Orchestral, "Selections from 'Aida'." (Verdi); choir.with orchestral accompaniment, "Policemen's Chorus," from "Pirates of Penzance" (Sullivan); pianoforte solo; "Romance" (Sibelius), W. Johnston; choral,'"God Who Created Me" (Byng Johnson) and "Gipsy Moon" (Bovganoff); choir with orchestral accompaniment, "Vimy Ridge" (Bidgood); playette, "And Then He Forgot," E. Welch, E. Luke, W. Tacon, J. Robinson, and E. Mulvihill; orchestra, "Finlandia" (Sibelius); soprano, "Just for Today" (Leaver) and "The Song of the Locust" (arr. Hill); flute solo. "II Vento" Caprice (Briccialdi), Father Evatt; baritone solo and chorus, "Jonathan, Jones". (Slater), W. Fitzgerald; orchestra, "Blue Danube Waltes" (Strauss); extracts from* "H.M.S. Pinafore" (Sullivan), characters played by W. Fitzgerald, T. Bunbury, and- R. Dwyer.
