TEMUKA-TIMARU
E. C. Brown (Civil Service Harriers, Dunedin), New Zealand marathon champion, added another success to his long list when he came home, an easy winner in the Teinuka-Timaru road race, the principal event of the year on the South Canterbury programme. The field this year was disappointing, and owing to a dispute between the Otago and Canterbury harrier management committees the teams race, one of the main attractions, had to bo abandoned. Fifteen runners faced the starter at Temuka Post Office. Brown had as a companion for the best part of the journey, A. D. Park, the Canterbury champion. The pair started off with a good lead and were never headed, Brown leaving Park just after tho Washdyko racecourse was passed, and completing the journey in easy style to win comfortably. Holmes, of the Timaru Club, was a. good third. Although, the raco was not perhaps so successful as in provious yoars, tho standard was high,, and the work of the' officials was all that could be desired- '
