MISS BARTON AGAIN
USES LIGHT CLUBS
Miss Pamela Barton, in winning the French ladies' open championship by a considerable margin,- has proved the greatest golf find amongst yonng women players since Mile. Simone Tlioin •de la Chaume (now Mine. Beneo. Lacoste), who also as a mere girl won the French ladies' close campibnship in 1925. She retained it until 1930. She won the French ladies' open in 1926, 1927, and 1930, and was runner-up in the British 'ladies' championship in 1926, and won it in 1927. Miss Barton, as the reports to hand state, played better against Mrs, Holm in the final for the British women's open title than appeared in the news at the time. Mrs. Holm was 3 down when she had lost the eighth, ninth, and tenth in the. first eighteen holes, and tho next three were halved, Miss Barton taking only one putt at each. Mrs. Holm won the fifteenth in 4, and halved the next in 2, though she three-putted on the seventeenth. Miss Barton was 1 up' at lunch time, but Mrs. Holm took the lead for the first time for sixteen holes, at the third hole in the afternoon,; and thenceforward accumulated a substantial lead, and won.
Miss Barton thought the contest good fun, says an English exchange.
"Everybody regards this rather gravely," she laughed, "but it is only a".game, isn't it? I enjoyed it all. It has been a grand experience, and, although' I felt tired, Mrs. Holm played so very finely that the result was almost what I expected. I would not have missed tho championship for anything. But 111-fry again, i When I was 10 handicap I won my first medal at the West Middlesex Club. Now my handicap is 4, and I attribute much of my success to the fact that I piny with light clubs. It 'is.'only two years ago .'-that I got an all-steel sot, and the driver weighs only 11-} ounces." "This littlo girl is really a brilliant golfer," was Mrs. Holm's tribute.
