TELEGRAPH RATES
• MINISTER'S STATEMENT
"You have got to make both end meet in the Post Office as much as ii anjr business," said the Postmaster General (the Hon. A. Hamilton) to. members of. the- Taranaki Chamber; of Commerce who waited on him as a deputation, a"t New Plymouth last weekand expressed disapproval of the newtelegraphic charges. "I do not thinkf the alteration was an increase. Call it rather a readjustment." In any case, he added, the charges would' be reviewed at the end of six months, when it would be seen if the adjustment had had the desired effect of stimulating the volume of telegraphic business. That business, had been falling off, and tha alteration had been tried as a compensatory measure. "You are raising the prices on your best customers—the business men," was the comment of Mr. S. E. Shaw, president of the chamber, reports tha ."Taranaki Daily News."
