Playing very steadily A. Clarke, having ■won two previous eompettiions, and being runner-up twice, • gave the Ifornington Club handicappers something to think about yesterday in the second round of the Brett Cup, a medal competition. He returned 75, 18—57. He was also playing during the same round the third round tie of the Black Clip, and A. Charles, his opponent, who has proved himself one of the steadiest match players among the younger members, could not stand up to Clarke, especially when he was conceding two strokes. Cup and the medal competition were:— C. Jacobi, 84, 19—65; T. P. Davis, 78, 11— 67; A. Thompson, S6, 18—68; R Youn<r S6.IS-08; E. C. Swinson, 81, 12-69. . The best cards returned in the bogey competition were:—G. Estall (lo), all square; L. McGirr (5), 1 down; D. Stratmore (4), 2 down.
