AFFECTING MEAT TRADE
The extremely hot weather being' experienced in'.England is affecting the meat trade according to the weekly cabled re--port, dated June 22, received by the .New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. The.' lamb market is slightly easier for this reason and there is a lessening demand for meat of all descriptions. Wether mutton remains firm owing to a shortage of spot stocks and ewe mutton is quiet with prices unchanged. The demand for beef is slow owing to the low prices of Argentine chilled beef. The hot weather i6 also held responsible for the small demand for New Zealand porker pigs but the market for ■ baconers is steady and unchanged. The approximate average prices for representative parcels offered at the Smithfield market and from London stores are given below, with the quotations for last week in parentheses. New Zealand Sheep.—Canterbury and North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden'ewes, 48/56 5%d per lb (5%d), 57/64 oVtd [sYid), 65/72 5d [i 7-8d); North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 4S/561b 5'5-8d (5 5-Sd), 57/64 5%d-:(5%d),--.65/72 5d (4 7-8d); ewes, 48/ under 4%d (4%d), 48/64 3 7-8d (3 7-8d), 85/72 3%d (3%d).
