EIGHT VESSELS IDLE
LYTTELTON DEADLOCK
(By Telegraphs-Press Association.)
CHEISTCHUECH, This Day. Six coastal and two oversea vessels are idle at Lyttelton through the" deadlock that has arisen over the engagement of labour for the Wingatui. Two calls were made for the Wingatui this morning, but the only men offering were those who had been discharged from the Wingatui-on Friday. Their services were not accepted. The Union Steam' Snip Company wanted fresh men before engaging further labour for other ships. "No men were offering for the other >:essels, which are idle. ' r ,
An exception was made in the discharging of frozen produce from the Foxton. The Tees is outside the Employers' Federation, and loaded stores for the Chatham Islands.
At noon two gangs were engaged for the Maori, the stipulation being made that they would load only perishable goods. : . '
