Shortly after his arrival an unsuccessful attempt is made on his life, and later Lynch's assistant, an under-cover man, and the Governor of the island are found: slain. In the attempt to solve the murders, Lynch picks up a trail that leads him to the Caroni swampa, treacherous with quicksand, inaccessible to man, and infested with man-eating crocodiles. Lynch and his new assistant discover the path through the swamp to an old pirate hide-away and find evidence that leads to the capture and conviction of the murderer. The final capture of 'the murderer gives a surprising twist to the picture.
