POPPY DAY
SATISFACTORY RESULTS
Nearly £100 more was collected in Wellington on Poppy Day this year, than last year. The returns this year amounted to £938 ISs IVsd, as compared with £858 14s lid in 1933. Eeporting on the day at a meeting of the executive of the E.S.A. last night, the secretary (Mr. J. Spence) eaid that, everything considered, the effort was an excellent one. The Rev. W. Bramw-ell Scott said he understood that in Christchurch and Dunedin commissions were allowed to the 'sellers, and wlien the returns in those centres were compared with those in Wellington this should be borne in mind The chairman (Colonel A. Cowles) said that the expenses in AVellington were practically negligible.. : : . ... The question-of the'cost'of: the poppies was raised, and it was pointed out that the money received for them went to disabled returned soldiers.. ;'■ Suggestions for a . cheaper method of manufacturing the poppies were made, but it was decided to leave the matter to the next executive. !
