AUTUMN FLOWER SHOW
The Miramar Horticultural Society'! autumn flower show was opened thi» afternoon in the Miramar Central School, Park Road. - it will-continue until- 10" p.m. There, was an excellent display, especially in the chrysanthemum and dahlia sections. Good entries were received for all classes, including pansies, carnations, pot plants, and vegetables, ..and sections for home industries and children. In opening the show at 3 p.m. Mrs. Kriox Gilmer congratulated the society on its work in the district. The display was a particularly fine one, she said, and spoke well for the enthusiasm fostered by the society. She gave a short talk on chrysanthemums and on the encouragement of native flowers, and made reference ;to tha cottage garden competition conducted by the society. The Wellington Horticultural Society's shows this season have shown a marked improvement both in the quality and the number of exhibits, and the Society's Autumn Show, to be held at the Town iiall next Thursday, will sustain the' same high standard. The show is to be, officially opened at 3 p.m. by the Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop). Particularly fine exhibits of chrysanthemums will be displayed, and dahlias are still flowering well and producing fine colour. The ladies' decorative section will be most interesting. A special feature will be the competition for potato comestibles for valuable cash prizes donated .by his Excellency the Governor-General. Full particulars, including a number of recipes, can be obtained pn application, A good orchestra^ dainty afternoon tea, and a wealth of choice exhibits will make the Town Hall on Thursday next well worth a visit;
