AEROPLANE DAMAGED
LANDING AT DUSK
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DANNEVIBKE, This Day. At about 5 p.m. yesterday, ill good weather, Flying-Officer J. Buckeridge and Mr. H. Preston, ground engineer of the Wairarapa-Ruahine Aero Club, left Akitio for Dannovirke, the former flying a privately-owned machine and the latter the Wairarapa Club's aeroplane. The journey to Dannevirke usually occupies 20 minutes, but they encountered heavy westerly winds and ■ rain squalls, and darkness came on quickly, and the machines separated. When over the Waitahora Valley, a few miles from Dannevirke, Mr. Preston decided, to land in the first available paddock. In landing, the machine touched the ground while it was still in a partial side-slip. The under-carriago carried away, the centre section of the fittings of one wing being damaged/ The pilot was unhurt. The machine was dismantled and shipped by lorry to Masterton today. Mr. Buckeridg© arrived safely at Dannevirke, landing in the dark at the local aerodrome.
