FOREST THREATENED
DESTRUCTIVE CATERPILLAR
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) .DUNEDIN, This Day. Dr. Holloway, lecturer in botany at the Otago University, states that the extensive forests of New Zealand mountain beech in the Wakatipu district are threatened with destruction through the ravages of a species of caterpillar. In the past two years large areas have been destroyed. The caterpillar first denudes the tree of its green foliage, the branches die back, and finally the tree dies. Specimens of the caterpillar have been sent to the Cawthron Institute. • . . ■ . .
