KARORI AFFAIRS

The quarterly meeting of 'the Karori Progressive Association was held last evening, about forty members being present. Mr. George H. Scott presided. General satisfaction was expressed with regard to the works being done in the district, and '• special reference was made to the excellent progress being made by the' City Council with Benuchamp Street and Duthie Street. It was mentioned' that Campbell Street should be tlie next to be attended to, as widening there was a matter of urgency. It was noted that the protest entered by the association against the extension of the cemetery was upheld. The beautifying scheme which the association has in hand by planting, trees in various streets of the district is to be continued. Residents were asked to communicate suggestions of improvements desired in this direction. Strong criticism was made of the joint ticket' issued by the Ratepayers' Association and the Civic League, owing to the small proportion of suburban representatives selected. A motion that the Karori Progressive Association "should resign its membership of the Civic League was not carried. The amount of £300 paid to' the City Council for a swimming bath was the subject of further protest. It was stated that the money so paid should now be refunded to the association, as the council had stated it was not in a .position to proceed with the scheme. Approval of the efforts of the executive was expressed. It was decided to hold the annual meeting in June.
