CLOTHES DRIVES

(To the Ecfitor.) Sir, —I should be grateful if you would permit me through your columns to draw the attention of all J£elburn residents to the clothes drive, ■on Saturday, April 29, on behalf of the unempkpyed and distressed families in this district. Many unfortunate families will soon be facing the trying winter months tragically short of warm clothing, and we make an urgent appeal to residents to go through their wardrobes for what they can spare. Light summer clothing is practically useless, but all kinds of warm woollen underclothing, stockings, socks, women's and children's dresses, men's suits and trousers, boots and shoes, overcoats, blankets, etc., will be Very welcome. Cars and Scouts will make a systematic collection on Saturday,' April 29, and anyone who is accidentally missed is asked to ring the Rev.' J. Hubbard, Presbyterian Manse! To facilitate collection residents are asked to have their parcels tied up and ready on Saturday morning. As there seems to be an impression that there are very few cases of actual distress in Kelburn,\we might mention that in this relief area are Mitchelltbwn and Aro Street, in both of which the percentage of distress is very high.* In the past Kelburn residents have responded generously to all appeals for help, and since this is a raa.tter which affects the health as well as the comfort of mothers nnd growing children, we confidently look forward to an equally generous response. ■ All residents with cars who are willing to assist in collecting are asked to get in touch with the Rev. J. Hubbard as early as possible. Thanking you, Sir, for your courtesy in publishing this.—l am, etc., N. V. TAYLOR, Depot Sec. for Inter-Church Committee. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Please permit me as convener of the Thorndon Inter-church Pielief Committee to remind the residents of the Thorndon area of the -"clothes drive" for Thorndon's needy,, which will be held on Saturday afternoon, April 22. Our committee would be grateful if donors would have parcels, ready by 1.30 and if possible left at the door. They will be called for and taken to the depot in Molesworth Street. We need useful clothing and boots of all'sizes and description and bed clothes, and we appeal confidently to the Thorndon people to help their needy neighbours. Whatever is received will be used only in this area.-t-For the committee, H, J, ODELL* Convene^
