Friday of the Avondale Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting are excellent, with particularly large. fields engaged in the two hack'races. The conditions should be ideal in the. event of .the club dodging its ill-hick so far. as rain is concerned. The principal race,is, the Foley Memorial Handicap, ' witli pTaneriri and ; Merry Damon- sharing ...the top. weight. The latter, failed to show, up at Ellerslie, but Tane'riri has had sriihe racing and should be nearly icady now.. Royal Artist'may want another place" to sharpen him up, although his form last weekend was distinctly promising. :,*• Master Brierly looks like being a warm favourite if he is produced, but there is at present some doubt about this, as ;he has not been doing too well since 7the ' Auckland Meeting. L'Allegro is an interesting acquisition to the ranks of handicap horses. He has been running very well over mile courses in the best company, and should not be' troubled bj7 a.mile arid a quarter. . Alloy, is always a possibility with that hue finishing'run of his. .- ; . ; : There, are. three'other open races, and m thes_ Jonathan,' Lordly Knight, ;and Chiet Joy appeal most.
