FIRE AT LOWER HUTT
The-contents of a bakehouse, stable, and garage (with the exception of th« vehicles) situated, in King's Crescent,Lower Hutt, just north of Pretoria Street, were totally destroyed by flrft 'at about 9.15 p.m. yesterday. Th« building, -which is of brick, and is owned by Mr. P. Greenfield, of Martinborough, and occupied on lease by Mr. F. McMorran, was badly gutted, prac* tically only the shell remaining. Mr. and Mrs. McMorran had left the bakehouse after setting the next ( day't bread. They had securely locked>,the door and had retired to the adjoining house some fifteen minutes before the fire qccurred. It was discovered by Mr. E. Mac Donald, who found the door, of tho bakehouse unlocked. The brigade arrived within three minutes of the alarm and made a splendid save of the adjoining buildingsy; which because of the fierceness of the gale were in considerable danger. Mr N McMorraa managed to push out the. van and car from the burning buildings, and tha owner of a car in=a garage at the,back of the building also saved his .vehicle.
