POOR SHOWING

NEW ZEALAND IN NORTH

MATCH AGAINST SCOTLAND

LOWRY KEEPS WICKET

(United Tress Association—By Electric 'i'olograph—Copyright.) (Special to Press Association.) (Received 16th July, 10 a.m.) GLASGOW, 15th July. The New Zealand batsmen generally mado a poor showing in commencing their match with Scotland. All experienced difficulty in timing their shots on the slowest wicket yet encountered. The start was delayed for forty minutes owing to the heavy state of the ground as a result of rain yesterday. The weather, however, was fine. The following'are the teams: — , New Zealand. —Allcott, Mills, Vivian, Matheson, Lowry, Dempster, James, Merritt, Kerr, .Talbot, Blunt. Scotland. —Alexander, Anderson, Bax-, ter, Hiddleston, Jones, Kerr, M'Tavish, Nicholson, Simpson, Tod, Watson. The toss was won by Lowry, but runs came slowly to New Zealand in the face of a steady attack, and with the outfield heavy. Mills was the first to go, caught at mid-off. Dempster and Kerr were also dismissed before lunch. The wickets of Talbot and Vivian fell after tho resumption, and then a timely stand was made by Blunt and James. Blunt again scored principally from off sho bs.. Merritt and. Matheson batted brightly and at the close of the innings the latter was undefeated. Matheson has been dismissed only once on tho toiir. Anderson and Baxter, medium righthanders/ bowled steadily, and Hiddleston's slow deliveries were only effective because the batting was weak. - The Scottish batsmen were also unconvincing, although Kerr showed himself to ibe a fine leg-side player. Allcott and Vivian bowled steadily, but did not have the best of : luck, several catches being dropped. Lowry spelled James behind the wickets; . Details:— , : NEW ZEALAND. V.
