"We appreciate the Efforts of Councillor Chapman and those who are supporting us in the council," said Mr. G. Mitchell, chairman oil tho Free Ambulance Board, at to-day's meeting of the board, when the City Council's action in connection with tho ambulance subsidy was discussed.

Mr. Mitchell said he doubted whether any good would come of a further discussion of the matter, but he commented on .the fact that tho body that indirectly received the greatest benefit from tho Free Ambulance should be the first to cut out the subsidy. The council's action might have a very serious effect on other contributors. All the other local bodies were contributing, although somo had reduced their amounts slightly. Mr. C. H. Chapman said that there was a feeling of nervousness that the City Council would not square itself at the end of the year.
