SECOND DAY AT TRENTHAM
WELLINGTON'S WINTER MEETING
CIAREMORE'S OWNER IS DISQUALIFIED
Luck holds to the Wellington Racing Club, and for the second day of its Winter Meeting yesterday the weather broke fine again after preceding days of rain. The bright sunshine attracted an attendance that was if anything better than Saturday's, and the totaljsator turnover, contrary to expectations, was an improvement on the first day's. The investments amounted to £23,350&, as compared with £42.472} on the second day (a Thursday) last year, making a total of £45,5384 for the first two iJays, against £81,0441 last year, a decrease to, date of £35.506. The track was again heavy, and was wetter and slower than on Saturday. ' Honours went to the South v Island, with five winners in West Dome, Sharp Thorn, Landmark, Town Major, and Water Powei. Town Major won the principal event, the Parliamentary Handicap, very decisively, and Kahikatoa scored just as easily in the Members' Handicap.' West Dome, who was successful on Saturday, gave Southland its third steeplechase victory in the three such races so fir decided at the meeting.
A sensation was caused by the six weeks' disqualification of Mr. S. Malone, of Avondale, owner of Claremore, thus rendering the horse ineligible for races till disqualification is removed.
