UNITED PARTY PLANS
SELECTING CANDIDATES
Although the other parties have already announced a number of .their candidates for tho next General Election, the United Party has been keeping very silent. This does not mean that the organisation has not been at work, however, and it is expected that before long a comprehensive announcement will bo made covering practically all the electorates. A "Post" reporter was informed to-, day that excellent men aro offering in all parts of the country, and it was anticipated that the Government party would be in a position to present a very bold front when the General Election came round. The Dominion "conference of the United Party. was to have been held in Wellington in April last, but in view of the Prime Minister's move in favour of a National Government it was deemed advisable to postpone the meeting. The meeting will now take place towards the end of June.
It is reported" that it is the intention of Mr. J. J. Clark to contest the Wellington East scat again at tho next election, and it is stated that he is likely to receive'the United nomination. At the last election Mr. Clark stood as an Independent Reform candidate, and ho polled. 2648 votes as against 4501-polled by Mr. T. Forsyth (Reform), and 5527 by Mr.■ R. Somplo (Labour). ■ -■
