. Seatoun members. of the League of Mothers had ■an exceptionally interesting afternoon at the monthly meeting, ■when there was a • very large, attendance. The speakers were Professor yon Zedlitz-and Mr. John Bishop., The first-named took as his . subject the "Eolation of Modern Scientific Developments in the' Problems of Motherhood," Ho touched on tho reactions of people 'generally-'throughout -the ages towards any newaspect of truth, giving instances from history,.and' counselling all present to remember that with newlight, i truth was always changing. Parents Bhould weigh these things carefully and comparo with experience any new ideas presented in regard to the well-being, of their children. ;;■ Science had taught riiotherhood many things, but there was much: ahead. to learn, notably, iii tho world of heredity. Many -useful ideas were presented byr. the speaker, particularly in the fact that' children can read the thoughts.of their parents. "Children often out-picture tho dread or otherwise of the parents, and tho latter can havo no secret thoughts." A useful hint given was that whilo parents naturally wish their children to be well-mannered, they must seeuro that by showing a good example, specially in regard -to th~ treatment oi" tho children themselves." The personality of mother or nurso, immediately reacted'on tho child, and the smallest ones were extremely sensitive, even to tones of voice. Mr. John Bishop I spoke in connection with the Juvenile Concert League which is v being formed in Wellington,' allowing 'tho valuo it is , likely to bo in the formation of good tasto in tho,,most beautiful of the arts. Ho stated'tliat,thero were already 1000 members of this' league, and three special concerts are (o ba given. Mrs. Gyles Turner gavo some excellent piano items. Hearty votes of thanks, were given to her and to both speakers for their very valuable addresses. Gifts of flowers woro forwared to sick friends.
