IMPROVING WEATHER

RISE IN PRESSURE With the. disappearance eastward of the recent low pressure area and with the rather rapid approach of an anticyclone, considerable rise in barometric pressure has taken place over the Dominion since last night. Southerly winds have become general as a result, and, although still strong in force, they are showing a tendency to decrease. Fair weather was experienced yesterday over most of the eastern districts and about Cook Strait, but elsewhere the weather was changable- and in places showery. The eastern provinces had some very welcome light showers last night. Temperatures generally have becometooler. Auckland had fair to cloudy weather yesterday, with a moderate south-west wind. In Wellington -it was sunny. The fresh north-west wind which prevailed during tho day changed to the south in the night, but no rain fell. In Christchurch it was warm and sunny. The wind there also backed'to. a southerly quarter , during the night, tho change being accompanied by one point of rain. A fine morning in Dunedin. was followed by a cloudy afternoon. A strong and squally south-west wind prevailed. ■. "* A general improvement in the weather is "indicated iv' to-day's, forecast. Moderato to strong southerly winds are likely to decrease in force. Rather cold and changeable weather with a few scattered showers may bo expected to give place soon to better conditions.
