■; . RESISTING SHOCKS A brief statement concerning the operations of the Building Regulations Committee wa3 made by the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. G. W. Forbes) in tho House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, replying to Mr. 0. Carr (Labour, Timaru). Mr. Forbc3 stated that as soon as possible a model set of bylaws to cover earthquake forces, together with a report as to details of construction to be avoided, would bo mado available as soon as possible. '-That would assist boroughs and local bodies in determining the suitability of existing structures to ■ resist earthquake shock and to take such action as appeared necessary. Legislation would be introduced during the session to provide for the administration of building regulations dealing with resistance to earthquake shock. •■" Full advantage, said Mr. Forbes, was being taken o( the'advice of seismologists of repute, both in and out of the Government service, and evidence was 'bein£ taken from all who could assist la devising a sot of regulations.
